Shiawassee Veterans Affairs continues to boil

By CHRISTINA GUENTHNER, Argus-Press Staff Writer

CORUNNA - The Shiawassee County Veterans Affairs Committee met Tuesday in a session called by the B
Board of Commissioners' new appointees.

But Committee Chairman Les Schneider believes the meeting which he says wasn't posted ahead of time, violated the Open Meetings Act - an assertion Commissioner John Pajtas disputes.

At a meeting Jan. 11, Schneider and Committee member Laurence Riddle, as well as Mike Savage, whose term officially ended Dec. 31, said they would not seat Pajtas, Ron Elder and Sara Edwards because those appointments by the County Board were not made in accordance with the law, which the Committee members contend requires letters of recommendation from area veterans organizations.

Schneider said he was not notified about the meeting Tuesday, held at the Veterans Affairs Office, but found out about it by accident.
.................................

Also, at 4 p.m. on Jan. 28 the Board of Commissioners will hold a hearing in the Circuit Court to remove Schneider and Riddle from the Committee for malfeasance.

I don't understand how malfeasance can be determined without having the courts opinion on weather or not the three appointees were legally appointed or not..

"malfeasance" for other things - you know like disbursing money they shouldn't (or the cmrs think they shouldn't) ??? I dunno

I'm not clear on either of these dates.

First I heard of the Monday meeting and I thought the 28th was just using the court room for a meeting...........somebody needs to clear this up.

A court proceeding to remove "for cause" the law says would be the probate judge........????
