I'm surprized that no one posted this. Maybe it's not cool because he did the right thing after breaking the law.

Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy Colbry pleads guilty to drunken driving charge
by Shannon Murphy | The Flint Journal
Thursday August 13, 2009, 12:23 PM
SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, Michigan — Admitting he was intoxicated after drinking vodka and pop, Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy O. Colbry pleaded guilty Thursday to a drunken driving charge following an July 7 crash in Venice Township.

Colbry pleaded no contest to a second misdemeanor charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident because he could not remember the incident, he told the court.,

When asked about the incident Colbry said "I was intoxicated your honor,"

His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 11:30 a.m. before Clinton County Judge Richard Wells.

The afternoon crash happened four miles west of the county courthouse when Colbry reportedly hit another vehicle at M-21 and Vernon Road. He was arrested a short time later on Lytle Road.

Colbry released a statement after the court hearing Thursday through his attorney Jose T. Brown.

In it Colbry apologized for his actions and said his plea shows his belief that people should be responsible for their actions.

"I am convinced all I have learned through the process of accepting responsibility and changing the way I deal with the stress of my job, and life in general, has made me a better man; and thus, a better prosecutor," he said in the statement.

His attorney said Thursday that Colbry, who is on leave from the prosecutor's office, does not plan to resign.

I knew it he thinks he's going to stay! What arrogance! He has to go! He has now turned his office into a public hypocrisy!

I would have posted it but I was working until 830. He didn't do the right thing. He was so intoxicated at 3 in the afternoon that supposedly has zero recollection of it. I call Bull Sh$t

There is that thing (law) about an elected official and "public drunkenness".

Needs to be a bunch of people pressuring the county commissioners to have the governor remove him from office.
I don't have much faith in those tree stumps doing anything.
I don't know if private citizens can do that or not.

Then there is the recall thing. County wide recall takes a lot of signatures to get on the ballot.

Anybody up for that?

 This is going to make him a better prosecutor, what?? This guy is a joke and a disgrace, if the people of Shiawassee County don't get him thrown out I will be very dissapointed. I would be very ashamed to have such a rotten prosecutor! If he had any dignity he would have resigned already. Fire up the petitions, storm the commissioners meetings, petition the Governor, do what is necessary to get this guy out!

I'm shocked (SHOCKED!) that a prosecutor would know exactly how to conduct himself if he got into legal trouble.

If he wanted to show people that he believes in taking responsibility for his actions, then he'd own up to all the other times he drove drunk on our roads. All the while prosecuting other people who did the same.

I remember when I got my OUIL. I had to take this written test. Supposedly the questions would determine, by my answers, what type of alcoholic I was. I answered truthfully. I am one of those people who actual do tell the truth. Anywho, the probation officer tells me that I should have been nailed to the wall with community service. I didn't get even one hour of it.

He goes on to tell me that statics prove that typically a drunk drive that is arrested for DUI has done it a bare minimum of 40 times prior to that.

This WILL NOT make him a better prosecutor.... His arse is in a sling. I have a hard time believing that he has "no recollection"

I don't think he should keep his job. I was impressed that he actually admitted to his crimes (at least the ones he got caught at). He could have made it a long drawn out process, costing the county a bunch of money we don't have.

Was his driver's license suspended? or anything?

People who have epilepsy or diabetes that "black out" have their license taken away forever.

Yeah. And taking responsibility should also mean facing the same consequences that any of the rest of us would face--including the inability to serve as county prosecutor.
