He was arrested FRIDAY and this is BREAKING NEWS ON MONDAY???
Almost three days later!!!!!!!!!!! That's dis-gusting!
You know, most people would be arrested on Friday and still sitting in jail on Monday.
Where's the mug shot? I'd like to see that on the front page. Colbry at least had time to clean up.
Won't be a mug shot like others (Nick Nolte comes to mind)

I don't understand why the sheriff's office did not put out a press release Friday.
This one has people riled up and delaying information only makes it worse.
I thought our new sheriff was not going to use delaying tactics like the previous sheriff did.
Didn't he say something about that during his campaign? Whether he did or not, very poor choice to delay.

You statement is not true...get your facts before spouting off.... 1) The only reason you would sit in jail over the weekend would be due to the fact that you were unable to post your bond. Pay the $200 and you can leave! So if you sat in jail for the weekend, it was no one fault but your own 2) Mug shots are not public information until after arraignment. 3) Maybe Colbry didnt turn himself in until later in the evening...Im almost 100% sure the people that are authorized to make press releases do not work weekends and the earliest time one could be drafted would have been monday morning....

The people authorized to write press releases would not sit at home all weekend wondering whether Colbry had turned himself in. I would guess that they either knew when he would do it, or they got a call at home when he did. And the top people ought to know the phone number for the Argus by now.

If Colbry voluntarily went and turned himself in, why the heck would he invite the media along?
In all fairness when anyone else turns them self in no immediate press release takes place. Why should this be different? he is no longer special.

Facts are optional(but occasionally I do try to be correct)......anybody, even you, can spout off any time they want.
1.) Do people normally have ENOUGH bail money on them, when they are arrested?
of course it is more convenient to be arrested, at your convenience, and knowing the legal system he would know
how much bail money to take with him
2. How would anyone, not familiar with illegal activities know that? Well, I want a blow up when it is available and I will make a
special effort to do some target practice, using it as a target
3. and, of course, nobody could get in touch with the sheriff, nobody knows his phone number, their index finger was broken and
of course it took a professional writer to write that one paragrah piece of news..............sorry
THAT'S A LOAD OF CRAP!! A HIGH PROFILE CASE LIKE THIS and even Colbry requested the police report be released asap
I don't even see him condoning the delay in the press release.......IT JUST MAKES MATTERS WORSE!

Colbry wouldn't issue a press release, but the sheriff's department should have. There's obviously a lot of interest.

If anyone else were arraigned, a press release would only come out if the story were interesting enough to be in the paper. In Colbry's case, any arrest at all is of public interest because he's the prosecutor.

I don't have a beef with the sheriff's department, I just thought someone made a good point that it should have come out sooner. But I do think they did a good job otherwise of handling Colbry's arrest and the investigation.

In defence of the sheriff dept. There really was no additional information given other then Colbry being charged & bonded out. Perhaps the Sheriff & his staff don't want to waste much more time on something that was turned over to the AG.

Mr Braidwood made it clear that it was in the hands of the AG now. for him and his department to avoid further drama makes perfect sense to me..

It would also make perfect sense to keep the people as informed as they possibly can.

I'm stuck in the middle. I want to know what's going on, but I realize that the sheriff's department might have a reasonable need not to say anything.

The defendant hasn't been arraigned, and he's an attorney. Somebody else is handling the investigation, and they don't want to screw the deal up for him. They're also between a rock and a hard place, because they could anger the public by not being hard enough on Colbry, but then again, what if he gets off scott-free and they have to deal with him later? It's a minefield.

I'm happy that the deputy hauled Colbry in, and that it was turned over to the AG. I would prefer for the sheriff's department to give out a little more information, but under the circumstances, I don't see any reason to beat them up. Maybe they are being tight-lipped to avoid mis-handling the case, as opposed to doing a Wilson-style lockout on the press.

I impulsively jumped into this thread because I didn't believe for a second that the top cops were unable to do a press release over the weekend. These guys were detectives and they know how to work around the clock--they don't drop off the face of the earth just because it's Friday afternoon.

Maybe somebody at The Argus should light a fire under the attorney general's office. If the Sheriff's Department isn't talking, they should be.

Had the Sheriff Dept "informed" everyone, a massive amount of people would want more info yet, along with misinterpret the info they were given and made more actuations. IMHO, the Sheriff Dept is in a damned if they do damned if they don't situation.

The focus here really should be on the prosecuting Attorney.. NOT his office or the Sheriff dept.

I agree with you. I can't believe how many are wanting to believe there is a conspiracy to cover up for Colbry. Of course, if Colbry resigned, it would make things a lot easier for everyone.

The Freedom of Information Act says something about when in doubt lean more towards openness.
