OfflineYet ANOTHER fine example of why we are never going to get it right. Big pharma stands directly in the path between life and death here once again proving that money is more valuable than human life.

OfflineROBO, I get "video not found or access denied".
If this video refers to "proton therapy", it isn't being prevented is it, just unreasonably expensive for most people as are many other treatments.
(tried to post an article on UF Proton Therapy Institute—couldn't get it to post–try searching that)
It is understandable that when a private firm must make a commitment of more than a billion dollars plus and three years or more to bring a major drug and/or procedure to market that a significant profit should be expected for taking that risk–certainly, just as is the case with natural resources, there must be some rational definition for "reasonable profit" to private interests versus public interests.
Maybe we need to come up with some sort of program for research and development of drugs–perhaps somewhat similar to the Space Program???
Perhaps there should be some modification to anti-monopolism laws regarding health research to permit more collaboration among health providers???

OfflineOkay. This is a drug called DCA that is already being used to treat other illnesses. Only costs pennies per dose, and it has no patent. It can be easily produced by almost anyone. It is relatively cheap to produce and the pharmaceutical industry won't touch it because there isn't enough profit in it. It has been proven to reduce human breast, lung and brain types of cancers by over 70% in less than 3 weeks with virtually NO side effects. FDA still none the less requires about 100 million dollars in clinical trials and testing before they will approve it for use on cancer in humans when the truth is that ANY life it saves is better than a life lost in the first place.
I think it sets the bar pretty low to conclude that a 5 year survival rate is a success when we all know that quality of life isn't even taken into consideration when calculating what the definition of the word "success" even really is. This is just one of many proven cures that we will not get because of the bureaucratic red tape and the denial of the pharmaceutical community to acknowledge any sort of a cure unless there is a high enough profit margin involved for their investors to line their pockets. Life? Death? Makes no difference in this country. It's all about the almighty $$$.
This is important to me because my mother died of cancer exactly 20 years ago today. Christmas Eve, 1992. 20 years! Radiated to death. With all the money we spend on cancer research every year, we still adhere to the same barbaric measures of chemo and radiation as the "staple" treatment in our society. We are seemingly no more advanced than we were back then. Gee whiz. I just can't help but to wonder why that is. This story has become so typical that nobody even notices the people who are dying of cancer all around us as we pull out our credit cards to make yet another wasted donation to cancer research whilst our hard earned dollars are being used to simply line the bank accounts of the FDA and pharmaceutical industry folks who just as well be laughing in our faces over the death of our loved ones.
I don't recall it being all that complicated for us to get penicillin, or anti-biotic drugs. Or immunizations, or insulin derivatives. Or anti-venom serum. So why such an ordeal to get approval for better cancer care? Because it's easier to take advantage of the poor and undesirables and let them suffer and die than it is to control them. Population control! That's why. "Especially" …if you cannot afford to pay for insurance. That's right!
They are not looking for CURES! They are only looking for TREATMENTS that will keep you alive long enough to soak you for every penny they can pry from your cold, dying, cancer riddled, emaciated pocketbooks!!! Humanity is the LAST thing on their agenda! When you have something that you KNOW works, you do not NEED a control group! You give it to the people who need it and you can see how it works by how much longer they LIVE! How would YOU …like to be ….in the "control" group?
She was 52 years old. The same age as her father was when he died. The same age as her father's father was when he died. And the same age that I will very likely be when I die. 52. Because at THIS rate, …in the next 2 years, there are sure to be NO further advancements in cancer care development. And I will absolutely not allow myself to go through what my mother did. At ANY cost! I'd rather die at 51 and save myself the grief. :l
